News Update: Expanded Funding for EmPower+
The Department of Energy recently approved $317.7 million in funding for the EmPower+ program to improve energy affordability for low- and moderate-income homeowners in New York. This will allow the program to expand its reach and impact.
Who is Eligible?
To qualify for EmPower+, you must be a low- or moderate-income household in New York State. Income eligibility varies based on household size. For example, a family of four with an annual income of $70,056.00 or less would qualify for the program. Renters can also participate with landlord approval.
Financial Incentives and Discounts
In addition to the free home energy assessment and direct installations, EmPower+ offers significant financial discounts for further energy efficiency upgrades:
- Low-income families can receive up to $10,000 in incentives
- Moderate-income families can get a 50% discount, capped at $5,000
These incentives can be used for upgrades such as insulation, high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, and ENERGY STAR appliances. Financing options are also available through NYSERDA’s Residential Financing program.
